The sample holder can be used for testing melts up to 180°C ambient temperature, and it is specially designed for use with our Kapton-insulated Hot Disk® sensor model 5501, which has a double-spiral diameter of 12.8 mm. For reactive or sticky sample materials, the Teflon-insulated version of this sensor model is recommended.
The melt sample holder consists of a small triangular-shaped cell for containing the relevant sample (in its solid and liquid phase), a sensor fixture, and a removable handlebar for carrying. It is tailored for use with our bath circulator TCU, but it can also conveniently be used with other TCUs, such as in our convection ovens. The triangular-shaped cell ensures that the sample fully encloses the sensor by the aid of gravity when melted.
To load the sample and to position the double-spiral of the vertically mounted Hot Disk® sensor in the bottom of the cell, the cell is accessed via releasing four bolt screws in the rear. The cell can be divided into three parts, making it easy to fill the powder, grains or pellets sample on both sides of the sensor. Once the sample is loaded and the sensor is in position, the cell is sealed by tightening the bolts and utilizing gaskets. Note also that there is a slot in the sample holder, close to the cell, for fitting our 4-mm-diameter PT-100 temperature sensor.
The melt sample holder is designed for testing up to 180°C, and has an aluminum body, teflon gaskets, and a stainless steel handlebar and fittings.
