Hot Disk® method

The Hot Disk® method

The internationally recognized Hot Disk® method, also referred to as the Transient Plane Source (TPS) method, invented by Hot Disk AB co-founder Dr. Silas E. Gustafsson in 1986, allows rapid, accurate and non-destructive testing of Thermal Conductivity, Thermal Diffusivity, Thermal Effusivity and Specific Heat Capacity of most material types, all in a single measurement. Thermal Conductivity and Thermal Diffusivity are tested directly, and Thermal Effusivity and Specific Heat Capacity are calculated from the former two.

Hot Disk AB’s instruments are based on our Hot Disk® method. The testing simplicity and vast range of use has made them hugely popular worldwide. This is also proven by the Hot Disk® method now being an international (ISO) and American (ASTM) standard.
