Testing rod-like samples
The One-Dimensional Measurement Module enables testing of Thermal Conductivity, Thermal Diffusivity, and Thermal Effusivity along one direction of a sample. It is designed for testing medium- to highly thermally conducting samples. Testing requires knowledge of the volumetric Specific Heat Capacity and the selection of a suitable sensor matching the cross-section area of the sample. Both single-sided and double-sided sample testing are supported, where the former enables rapid QC testing while the latter maximizes measurement accuracy.
The One-Dimensional Measurement Module is useful for testing Thermal Conductivity and Thermal Diffusivity along the axis of rod-like or limited-sized samples. With our premium Hot Disk® instruments TPS 3500 and TPS 2500 S, sample sizes as small as 1.5 mm in width/diameter and 4 mm in length can be tested (using Hot Disk® sensor model 7531). This enables the testing of precious metal bars or ingots, graphite pellets, and spark-plasma-sintered materials.
We developed this measurement technique, and its theory originates from our paper published in the International Journal of Thermophysics in 20061. It partly meets ISO standard 22007-7. Hot Disk AB contributed to the development of this standard.
