Large Tubular Furnace

This larger benchtop horizontal tube furnace of split-type uses multiple zone metal coil elements for heating. The furnace has a removable tube-shaped and vacuum-sealed temperature chamber of inner diameter 100 mm. The split-type design reduces tube cooling time.

The tube chamber opening is on the right tube end, and a dedicated sealing insert with sensor fixture, sample holder, and sensor cable feedthrough, tailored for the chamber, is included. The maximum sample size that the sample holder can accommodate is 80 mm wide, 80 mm long, and 25 mm thick (for one of the two sample pieces surrounding the sensor). For easy and safe access to the sample holder, the insert is equipped with a slide bar. Moreover, the insert has a port for a thermocouple (which is included). This thermometer however is not used for the automatic temperature control of the tube furnace. It is only employed for registering the temperature close to the sample, and prior to a measurement with the Hot Disk® instrument. The tube furnace can be used to test samples up to 1000°C, where the temperature stability is better than ±0.5°C. Finally, please note that the furnace has a separated control unit.

The tube chamber and insert are made of stainless steel, and close to the tube chamber opening the tube has an integrated liquid cooling coil pipe. This is used to protect the gasket (lubricated in silicone grease) in the bolt connection between the insert and tube as well as the thermocouple ferrule and outside wiring of the insert. For cooling we recommend the use of a chiller (cooling water circulator) that we supply on request. The tube chamber also has gas ports on both ends. These are used for gas purging and gas continuous flow. We recommend inert gas purging for temperatures exceeding 400°C, and continuous inert gas flow for temperatures exceeding 800°C. This is to minimize sample oxidation and to increase the lifetime of the sensor. For gas purging, a kit containing gas hoses with nipples, cross-joint connection with bench fixture, safety valves, taps, and pressure gauge is included, and a rotary vacuum pump is available on request. For gas continuous flow, a kit containing cooling coil with fittings is available. Moreover, included spare parts for the insert are a tube of silicone grease, an extra gasket, and an extra thermocouple ferrule.

This split tube furnace is intended to be used with our bare Mica-insulated Hot Disk® sensors, mounted and wire-contacted by pressure with the sensor fixture of the insert. Of course, our Kapton-insulated Hot Disk® or Hot Strip sensors can be used if the chamber temperatures is kept below 300°C.

The tube furnace is automatically controlled via the Hot Disk Desktop App over RS232 communication. The Hot Disk Desktop App can be programmed to automatically perform a series of measurements with the Hot Disk instrument at multiple chamber temperatures.

Hot Disk Continuous-Flow Cryostat (78 K to RT)
  • New
Continuous-Flow Cryostat
-195°C (78 K) to Room Temperature

This floor-standing cryostat uses a continuous flow of liquid nitrogen from a storage dewar for cooling, and a resistive wire element for heating. The system consists of four separated parts: a cylindrically shaped vacuum chamber, with a liquid nitrogen vessel on top, both integrated into a floor-stand; a temperature control unit; a turbomolecular pump; and a self-pressurized dewar.

PT100 Temperature Sensor
-80°C to 260°C

The PT100 temperature sensor is used optionally for registering the ambient temperature close to the sample and prior to a measurement with the Hot Disk® instrument. It is especially useful when using a TCU as the sample temperature might differ from that registered by the integrated TCU thermometer. Note that this PT100 temperature sensor is not used for automatic temperature control of our TCU units.
